Thoughts About Next School Year

Next school year. I can't believe it. I'm in the process of putting our "curriculum" together for 9th, 3rd, and 1st grades.
9th grade, amazing. Tom will be in 9th grade. It seems like yesterday that I was trying to show him how to hold a pencil. My little boy is closing in on being a man. Yes, true. He actually shaves now. His feet are bigger than his brothers' not to mention his dad's. ~LOL~ He's been working for/helping a friend of ours on and off this school year. He now is helping his dad with his side job. Can this "little boy" please slow down and stop growing up?
Then we have Katie. She has gone through some struggles, but, OH!, how she is blossoming into a young lady. Her looks are changing, she is growing in the Lord, and "gasp!" she noticed a boy last week. Yes, she is only 8 or should I say 8 1/2. Since she cannot have the same snacks as everyone else, a little boy in her Tuesday Bible class asked her what kind of fruit she liked. The next week he brought her a big pear. (I'm sure his mom wanted to know what she could eat). Anyway, When we got into the car to go home, She pulled out this pear (she didn't eat it in class), and said, "I think ..... likes me. He gave me this." ~LOL~ She was so cute when she said this.
Last but not least, we have Ana... she is a stinker. She is stubborn and tough, but loving. She loves her family so much. She is now realizing how to do math. During this weekend, she surprised me by doing math pages all by herself. She was so excited. She enjoys cursive writing and especially learning about the states. We started doing a state a day (or close to it). We are using booklets from www.homeschoolshare.com . Ana also likes to wear skirts or dresses. That is her thing. She would also wear all the jewelry that would fit around her neck and arms if you would let her.
We are determined to make the end of this school year and the beginning of the next to be the best out of them all.

Katie riding Jack
Ana and the rooster
Katie's snowball (from a science kit)
Ana creating snow
Tom #3 playing basketball (see how big his feet are)
Katie practicing her drama/music (Ana singing/acting along with her)
Science experiment ~snow~ We can't seem to get any from our sky so we had to create it. ~LOL~
Tom's science experiment with water, oil, and corn syrup

Katie's lapbook page from "Arrival of a King" from A Journey through Learning.
She drew the Jordan River and put a dove in the corner Then she made a tree that stands up. The green in the Jordan River are lily pads with a star on it (I think that is supposed to be a flower. The "John the Baptist" booklet is at the bottom with a ribbon tied around it.
Some of the ideas I have for Katie and Ana's next school year are:
Books of course ~smile~
Homeschool Share lapbooks (Maybe trying to follow Story of the World 2 with these; as close as possible) And science lapbooks (need to find some experiments or crafts to go with these)

Not in order:

volcanoes
nocturnal animals
solar system
animal classification
birds of prey
trees
botany
maybe hurricanes and tornadoes; I'm sure I have a lot of things/books in my basement for these.

knights
knights & castles
Leonardo's horse
Robin Hood (Katie is extremely excited about this)
Explorers ? with History Pockets (not sure about this)
Rome
vikings
Canada

We will also be doing the Kings and Queens ... making up my own and borrowing some ideas for this and other things.

So, that is what I have so far for the girls. I am not going to do any grammar/english books. I will teach them through the lapbooks. I have never used a spelling program.

We will continue with our regular math studies.

If drama is offered next year, the 3 of them will do that which includes music.

Now for Tom. I have ideas.

I really want to use Biology 101 dvd's with different books and dissection. (We may get some dissection in this year...a frog and a pig)

Tom is definitely not an Apologia person though I think I will use Biology (1st edition) for a spine.

He did ask to do notebooking/lapbooking for History. He wants to do Ancients.

I'm still going over and over his subjects in my mind for right now.

That's it for now. I need to get off this computer.

Have a great day.
